Landscape of Colours
I work predominantly in oils, using brushes and pallet knives. I use layers and textures to break up shapes and am always looking for colours that bounce off each other. It can sometimes be a sound, the ambience or a feeling that prompts where I want to go next. My passion is colour, even the white-on-white tones bring a special pleasure.
Colour leads me through every painting.
My method is to draw into the wet paint as I progress. I am fascinated by the hidden detail, the unexpected mark making and layers of colours that come through when scraping away the top surfaces.
The ’What’s in a Fairy Tale’ series was a reminder of how exciting it was when I first wanted to paint. It gave me an opportunity to immerse myself in Colour, Magic and Dreams. Storytelling has always been an important element to my work as do certain symbols that reoccure in many of my paintings.
This is my story, a life depicted through my paintings, hopefully bringing a little pleasure and a little mystery.
